Trials are not the most desirable part of life. Honestly, trials can be devastating and cause other issues like fear, doubt and anxiety to surface. When a trial comes, we automatically get into defensive mode and either pray or try to figure out how to fix the issues on our own (bad idea). When was the last time you gave God full control of your situation? When was the last time you invited Him to partake in your pain, exchanging His yoke for yours?
Those moments of trial are times when our faith is being tested. God is not testing our patience, nor is He testing our ability to quote scripture. God is testing the motives of our heart to see if we can still have joy during our pain. God is watching to see if we can give Him a “thank you” and not a “forget you.” He is watching to see if we lose our temper and hurt other people instead of calling out to Him. It is in those moments of pain and anguish where the sincerity of the hearts is shown. Take a moment today to do a self-examination. If you are quick to turn your back on God when times get rough, then He can’t trust you to hold the baton in victory. Will you fail the test, or will you count it all joy and persevere?
Prayer: When trials come and are too troublesome to bear, Lord test my motives to make sure they are pure. Help me to have joy in pain and peace in my suffering. Steady my wavering thoughts and help my unbelief. Amen
Scripture: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
